Nicola

Nicola's words of wisdom have helped many new Mums organise the chaos that often ensues when a new baby joins the family.  Routine is of the utmost importance when establishing behavioural patterns.

Nicola says..

"It may seem like just another chore but keeping a diary during baby's first 6 - 8 weeks can be a massive help!  Log the time of every sleep, feed and nappy change.  After just a couple of weeks, you'll be able to see a pattern develop from which you can organise your day".

Diary example

6.00am: baby wakes up for bottle, then sleeps for about half an hour
6.30am: takes a little more formula
 7.30am: bath, dressed, nappy change
 9.30am: nappy change
11.40am: another feed then sleeps for just over 2 hours
  2.00pm: nappy change
5.00pm: another feed and nappy change followed by 2 hour sleep

"Continuing with the diary, helps you to follow a specific routine.  It's important to stick to the routine since this vital to baby's early development."

Don't be too quiet!

"New mums often make the mistake of keeping the house quiet.  It's important for baby to get used to household sounds such as the vacum cleaner, washing machine, television and more importantly, the voices of family members.  Baby needs to learn to be able to sleep through household sounds.  It also helps them feel safe and secure.  Do this, and you'll have a contented baby."
